The Mykonos season runs about twenty weeks, from the third week of May to the middle of October. Nobody stays for all of it. A typical stay is ten days to three weeks, and the island is busy enough in August that most people come for that spike and leave when it passes.

Distance is the constraint nobody warns you about. Mykonos is 85 square kilometres with one real town, and the difference between Chora and Kalafatis is thirty-five minutes of road each way, more in the evening.
Chora has no vehicle access. A car stops at Fabrika or on the ring road and the last five to ten minutes are on foot, which is what everybody does here all summer. Ornos, Psarou and Platis Gialos are ten to fifteen minutes out and easy. Elia, Agrari and the north coast are a real journey, and those bookings want a longer window rather than a shorter one.
Taxis will not rescue you. There are only a few dozen serving the whole island and the rank at Fabrika Square is empty by ten in the evening. What to expect, and what not to
Expect somebody dressed for the place you are actually going. Resort clothing on the south-west coast, proper evening wear in town, nothing anywhere that announces itself to a hotel lobby. Expect her to know which restaurants seat a couple without making a performance of it.
Expect the window you booked to be the window you get. The start time, the duration, the location and the rate are agreed before anything is confirmed, and once agreed they do not move. Nothing is added on arrival and nothing is renegotiated at the door.

One practical thing that saves an argument every summer. Draw the cash during the day. Chora machines have queues by nine in the evening in high season and a good number of them are empty by midnight.
A last word on discretion
Discretion here is logistics, not philosophy. A Chora hotel with eighteen rooms and one person on the desk sees everything, so an arrival is timed rather than improvised. A villa is easier and the problem moves to the gate, which means a pinned map location, a gate code, and a warning if there is a guard on it.
Shared houses need one sentence the night before. If other people are staying, they should know a guest is coming. That single sentence prevents almost every awkward morning we hear about.
