Most people who book a companion in Mykonos are staying in a villa, and most of the practical detail that makes a booking go smoothly or badly is villa-specific. Not the service. The logistics. Where the house is, how the driver finds it, whether there is a gate, who else is inside, and how long it genuinely takes to get from wherever the companion is to wherever you are.
This page covers all of that. If you are renting a house anywhere on the island and want someone to come to you, this is the version of the process that will save you an hour of confusion.
Why villas are how Mykonos books
The island has comparatively little conventional hotel stock relative to the number of people who visit it, and a very large stock of private houses built to be rented for a week at a time in summer. The result is that a majority of visitors are staying somewhere private, self-contained and away from the town. That includes most of the people who book companions.
That suits everybody. A villa booking is the most relaxed version of this service: there is no front desk, no corridor, no timing around other people’s schedules. There is a gate, a door, and privacy. The trade-off is distance, and distance in Mykonos in August is not a trivial thing.
Where the villas are
The south-west: Ornos, Psarou, Platis Gialos
The busiest and best-connected part of the island for villa rentals. Houses here sit on the hills above the three bays, ten to twenty minutes from Chora depending on the hour, and this is the easiest area to arrange short-notice bookings in. If you are in a hillside house above Ornos or Psarou, you are in the most convenient position on the island.
The south-east: Kalafatis, Elia, Agrari
Quieter, more spread out, and considerably further. Elia and Agrari are beautiful and genuinely remote; Kalafatis is at the far end of the south coast. Bookings here work best as longer blocks. Two hours minimum, and overnights are common, simply because the travel does not justify a short visit for either party.
Above Chora and Agios Ioannis
The hills immediately west and south of the town, including the stretch above Agios Ioannis with the sunset views. Close enough to Chora that a booking here is straightforward, private enough that most people prefer it to staying in the town itself. Roads narrow quickly, so a pin matters more than usual.
The north and Ftelia
The windward side is emptier, cooler and further from everything. Bookings here are perfectly normal but need the most notice. Plan on longer travel and give us more warning than you think you need.
What we need from you before a villa booking
The exact pin, not the villa name
This is the single most useful thing you can do. Villa names in Mykonos repeat, are frequently invented by the rental listing rather than known locally, and are almost never signposted. A dropped location pin removes every ambiguity. If you can also say which turning off the main road, better still.
Gate codes and security
Many houses have a gate at the bottom of a drive, an intercom, or a code. Tell us in advance. An arrival that has to phone from outside a locked gate is an arrival that has just become conspicuous, which is the opposite of the intention.
Who is home
Villas are shared. If there are other people in the house, that is completely fine and extremely common. Everyone in the house should still know a guest is arriving. The awkward moments in this business are essentially never about the booking itself; they are about a housemate who was not expecting anyone.
How long you want, decided before you ask
This sounds trivial and is not. The single thing that turns a five-minute booking into a forty-minute negotiation is uncertainty about duration, because duration determines availability, and availability determines whether the booking happens at all. A companion who is free for two hours may not be free for six. Deciding before you send the first message means you get a real answer immediately instead of three rounds of messages while an evening slot goes to somebody else.
As a rough guide for villas: two hours is the practical minimum anywhere on the island outside the immediate Chora area. Three to five hours covers an evening that includes dinner. Overnight is the default for anything on the south-east coast or the north, and is usually better value than the alternatives once you have counted the driving.
Groups, and how that changes a booking
Two companions instead of one
Common in villa stays, and the thing to know is that availability rather than price is the constraint. Two people free for the same window at short notice in August is genuinely difficult. Ask early. Outside high season it is rarely a problem.
Bookings around a dinner at the villa
A lot of villa evenings begin with a private chef and run late. If the booking is built around that, tell us the shape of the evening. Arrival time, whether the companion is joining the table or arriving afterwards, and roughly when you expect the night to end. It is a different booking from a straightforward outcall and it works much better when it is planned as one.
Rates for villa bookings
Rates start around €120 to €150 per hour and are agreed in full before anything is confirmed. Two things push a villa booking up: distance and duration.
Distance is real. Reaching a house at Kalafatis or on the north coast takes time that has to be accounted for, and we would rather build it into the quote honestly than surprise anyone. Houses in the Ornos, Psarou and Chora triangle are the least affected.
Duration works in your favour. Because the travel cost is fixed, longer bookings are proportionally better value. A two-hour villa booking is not double a one-hour one, and an overnight is substantially better value per hour than either. In the more remote parts of the island, longer bookings are frankly the only ones that make sense.
Discretion in a shared house
Villa privacy is excellent once someone is through the gate and poor before it. Arrivals are by car and unremarkable. Nobody turns up at a residential gate at eleven in the evening dressed for a nightclub. If the house has staff, or neighbours close enough to matter, say so and the arrival is handled accordingly.
Nothing about the booking is discussed with anyone, at the time or afterwards. Nothing is photographed. Contact details are not kept once the booking is finished. In a place as small and as talkative as Mykonos in August, that is not a courtesy, it is the whole basis of being able to operate at all.
When to book, by month
Villa bookings follow the island’s season closely, because villa rentals do. In May, June and early October the houses are half-empty, the roads are clear and a same-day booking is usually straightforward wherever you are staying.
July fills up. A day of notice is comfortable, more if your villa is on the far side of the island.
August is the constraint. Every house is let, the evening roads are at their worst exactly when most bookings want to start, and overnights become unavailable first, which is exactly what most villa stays want. If your villa week falls in August, arrange this before you fly rather than after you arrive. It costs nothing to ask early.
September is the month worth knowing about. The sea is at its warmest of the year, the villas are still fully open, the roads have calmed down, and availability is dramatically better than three weeks earlier. For anyone whose dates are flexible it is the better half of the same holiday.
Common questions
How far in advance should I book for a villa?
Outside July and August, a few hours is usually enough. In high season, plan on a day for a standard booking and several days for an overnight or two companions. If your villa is on the north or south-east coast, add more. Travel is the limiting factor here, rather than availability.
Can a companion arrive by taxi discreetly?
Yes, and it is the normal way. Arrivals are by car, at the gate or the door, and are unremarkable to anyone watching. If the drive is long, narrow or unlit, tell us. That is worth knowing before rather than during.
Do you charge extra to reach a remote villa?
Distance is factored into the quote you are given before you confirm, so there is no separate surcharge appearing later. A house at Elia or on the north coast will be quoted differently from one above Ornos, and you will know that before you agree to anything.
Can we book for a group staying together?
Yes. Two-companion bookings are common in villa stays. The practical limit is availability, particularly in August, so this is the booking type to ask about earliest. Everything is arranged in advance rather than added to on the night.
What if the villa has staff?
Perfectly normal and not a problem. A great many Mykonos houses come with a housekeeper or a chef. Just tell us, so the arrival is timed and handled with that in mind rather than discovered on the doorstep.
Is a villa booking different from a hotel booking?
The service is identical. The logistics are not. Villas are more private and more comfortable but usually further away and harder to find; hotels are closer and easier to reach but involve a building with other people in it. Neither is better, and the choice is usually made for you by where you are already staying.
Can the booking start at the villa and continue elsewhere?
Yes, as long as it is agreed at the outset. An evening that begins at the house and moves into Chora is a normal shape for a booking here. What does not work is deciding to change the plan halfway through. The whole thing is arranged around a defined window and location.
