If you are staying in a hotel in Mykonos, booking a companion to your room is straightforward and common. Done properly, it is completely unremarkable to anyone else in the building. The island’s hotels are built around privacy: separate bungalows, private terraces, entrances that do not run past a reception desk. That architecture does most of the work.
What follows is the practical detail: which parts of the island the hotels are in, what we need from you, how arrivals are handled, and the small number of things that actually make a difference.
Outcall to your hotel
Every hotel booking we take is outcall. The companion comes to you. There is no meeting elsewhere and no complication beyond getting across the island, which in Mykonos in August is the only complication that matters.
The arrangement is simple. You tell us the hotel, the area, the time window and how long you want. We confirm who is available for that window and quote you. Once the booking is agreed you give us the room or suite number, and that is the last thing that needs organising.
Front desks and how arrivals work
Nobody announces a booking at reception. Arrivals go directly to the room, dressed appropriately for a smart hotel in summer, at a time that has been agreed rather than improvised. In practice this is entirely unremarkable. Mykonos hotels in August process an enormous amount of coming and going, and a well-dressed guest walking through a lobby at ten in the evening is the least interesting thing happening.
Suites, bungalows and private entrances
A great many of the better properties on the island are built as separate units with their own doors, paths and terraces. If yours is one of them, say so. It makes the arrival simpler still, and it usually means the companion can reach you without passing through a public area at all.
Guest-friendly is not the same as guest-hostile
People sometimes arrive expecting a problem that does not exist. Mykonos hotels are not in the business of policing who visits their guests, and the vast majority of properties on the island are entirely relaxed about it. What they care about is that the hotel remains quiet and that nothing happens in a public space.
The very small number of properties that are stricter are usually the smaller family-run places in Chora, where reception and the front door are the same three metres of floor. Those bookings still work. They simply want a bit more thought about timing, and it is worth telling us if you are staying somewhere like that.
Where the hotels are
Chora hotels
In and immediately around Mykonos Town. The most convenient part of the island for short-notice and short-duration bookings, because travel time is minimal at any hour. The trade-off is that the town is dense and public, and vehicle access to some properties is limited by the lanes.
Ornos and Platis Gialos resorts
The south-west bays hold much of the island’s resort accommodation. Ten to twenty-five minutes from Chora depending on the hour and the traffic. This is comfortable territory for bookings of any length and is the easiest resort area to reach in high season.
Elia and the south-east
Elia, Kalafatis and the coast round to the east hold some of the largest and quietest resorts on the island. They are also the furthest from everything. Bookings here are best arranged as longer blocks and with more notice, for the same reason villa bookings on that coast are. The driving is real.
Agios Ioannis and the west
The stretch below Chora facing Delos, with the sunset-facing properties. Close to town, easy to reach, and among the more private hotel locations on the island.
What to have ready
Room number, not just the hotel name
Some Mykonos resorts are very large and laid out across a hillside with numbered paths rather than corridors. The hotel name gets someone to the property; the room, suite or bungalow number gets them to you. If the layout is confusing, a note about which path or building saves everybody several minutes.
Timing around hotel staff
Turndown, housekeeping and room service all have rhythms. If you know yours, mention it. It is a small thing that makes the booking smoother, and it is the kind of detail that only you can supply.
How long you want
Decide before you get in touch. Duration determines availability, and availability is what actually limits bookings in high season. A companion free for two hours may not be free for six. Sending the duration in the first message gets you a real answer immediately instead of three rounds of messages while the slot goes elsewhere.
Rates
Hotel bookings are quoted on the same basis as everything else, from around €120 to €150 per hour, agreed in full before the booking is confirmed, with the figure fixed once agreed. Length and travel distance are the two things that move it.
Because most hotels sit in the more accessible parts of the island, hotel bookings are frequently the least affected by travel of any booking type we take. A room in Chora or Ornos is about as easy as Mykonos gets. Elia and Kalafatis are quoted with the distance accounted for, and you will know that before you agree to anything.
Discretion at a hotel
The whole point of a hotel booking is that nothing about it is visible. Arrivals are timed, dressed for the setting and direct. Nothing is discussed with hotel staff, nothing is left behind, and no detail of the booking exists afterwards on our side. We do not confirm bookings to anyone other than the person who made them, under any circumstances, including to someone claiming to be at the same room.
The one thing worth saying plainly: if you are sharing the room, everyone in it should know. That is the only variable we cannot manage from our end.
Timing across the season
Hotel bookings are the least seasonal of everything we do, because hotels sit in the accessible parts of the island and travel is what the season really affects. Even so, the pattern holds.
In May, June and October, same-day bookings are routine anywhere from Chora to Elia. In July, a few hours of notice is comfortable. In August the constraint is the evening road rather than availability of people. A request at six in the evening gets a much better answer than the identical request at eleven, because between seven and eleven the road down from town is at its worst.
September is the month with the best balance: the resorts are still fully open and busy, the sea is at its warmest, and both availability and travel times are far better than three weeks earlier.
One further note for hotel guests specifically. The evening of your arrival day is the hardest booking to place, because flights and ferries land in waves and the roads are worst in the hours immediately afterwards. If you want company on your first night, arrange it before you travel rather than from the taxi.
Common questions
Will the hotel ask questions?
Almost never. Mykonos properties are used to a constant flow of visitors in high season and have no interest in guests’ private arrangements. Arrivals are handled so that there is nothing to ask about in the first place.
Can a companion meet me in the lobby bar first?
Yes, and in some hotels it is the more natural way to start an evening. It becomes a social booking rather than a straight outcall, so it should be arranged that way from the beginning. It usually wants a slightly longer window than you would otherwise book.
Do you visit every hotel on the island?
Effectively yes, across Chora, Ornos, Platis Gialos, Psarou, Agios Ioannis, Elia, Kalafatis and the rest. The relevant question is never which hotel, it is how long it takes to get there and whether the timing works.
Is a hotel booking more expensive than a villa?
Not in itself. The rate depends on the length of the booking and the distance travelled, not the type of building. Most hotels happen to sit in the more accessible parts of the island, so hotel bookings often come in slightly lower on the travel component.
What if my room is shared?
That is your call to make, but everyone using the room should know a guest is arriving. Bookings that go wrong on this island almost always go wrong because of an unbriefed roommate, not because of anything else.
Can I book from the hotel for the same evening?
Often, yes, particularly if you are in Chora, Ornos or Platis Gialos. In August the answer depends on how early in the evening you ask. Travel time roughly doubles once the island fills up, so a request at six has a much better answer than the same request at eleven.
How long should I book for?
An hour is workable in Chora. Two hours is the more comfortable minimum anywhere else, and for the south-east resorts it is the sensible floor. Longer bookings are better value per hour in every case, because the travel component does not scale with the duration.
